Silaliq (Crew 17) Sol 1 Report 21-7-2025

 In Daily report

Silaliq is at the Hab! A strong storm in the high Arctic delayed air travel throughout Nunavut, but did not dampen spirits.

Today was our first day in simulation! Before starting sim, Crew 17 took a field trip to the river to collect water. This was our first journey outside of the Habitat as a crew, and it was amazing to finally explore the island and see just how similar Tallurutit is to Mars.

After returning to the Hab, Phnam, Laura, and I embarked on an EVA to the Haughton crater while Terry stayed behind to complete some very important Hab maintenance projects. Phnam and I were in EVA suits while Laura acted as bear watch. Along the way, we sampled some water from a river that ran inside the crater. We also stopped several times to pick up some gypsum samples for Aida’s research project. All in all, today was a very productive and exciting day!
